Filipino spaghetti, igado, Mama Mercy: Bretman Rock’s reality show premieres on MTV

Internet baddie Bretman Rock’s MTV reality show, Following Bretman Rock, premiered on Tuesday, February 9 (Monday, February 8 in the US) and it’s exactly what you’d expect from the YouTube sensation.

The first episode introduces us to the show’s main cast: Bretman’s cousin and personal assistant Miss K, childhood friend Larry, and sister Princess.

Miss K said her role as Bretman’s assistant just happened. “[It was] me traveling around the world for him and I noticed my bank account was going negative and I’m just like: Bret, next time you want me to come, you gotta pay me,” she explained.

Larry, Bretman’s friend since their grade school years, is “the best companion – like a dog,” in Bretman’s own words. Princess, meanwhile, is a mother of two who has since grown a substantial internet following of her own.

The episode features Bretman, Miss K, and Larry moving into a temporary beach house while Bretman’s mansion gets fixed. Larry plans a horse-riding excursion for the 4 while Princess, who admits she loves seeing Bretman fail, talks her brother into organizing – and cooking – a dinner for their mom.

Bretman, who admits he doesn’t cook, ends up impressing Mama Mercy with his Pinoy spaghetti skills (sweet red sauce with hotdogs, for the uninformed) but not so much with his igado (an Ilocano pork and liver stew).

Mama Mercy later opens up about how difficult it was to be a single mother and to work hard for the 3 children. The show has over 400,000 views on YouTube, around 4 hours after it as first uploaded.

Bretman, 22, was born in the Philippines and has lived in the US for more than 10 years. He first started growing an online presence more than 6 years ago with makeup tutorials and vlogs. He currently has over 8 million subscribers on YouTube and 15 million followers on Instagram. – Rappler.com
