Carly's all grown up

Paramount+ released on Wednesday, June 2 the first trailer for the highly-anticipated reboot of one of Nickelodeon’s sitcom iCarly.

Featured in the trailer are Miranda Cosgrove, Nathan Kress, and Jerry Trainor reprising their iconic roles as Carly, Freddie, and Spencer. Missing from the reboot are Jennette McCurdy and Noah Munck, who played fan-favorites Sam and Gibby, on the show.

The reboot instead introduces us to Carly’s new friend, Harper, played by Laci Mosely.

The iCarly reboot will run for 13 episodes. Although no other plot details have been revealed yet, Carly says in the trailer: “This is still iCarly. But we’re all grown up now.” The show takes place nine years after the gang shut down their web show in 2012.

With that in mind, viewers can expect the show to tackle more mature themes on love, work, and life, but still with the same silliness and fun of the original series.

The reboot, which was announced in December 2020, will be produced by Nickelodeon Studios and Awesomeness and will be run by executive producers Jay Kogen, Ali Schouten, and series star Miranda Cosgrove. The pilot episode is directed by Phill Lewis, known for playing Mr. Moseby on Disney Channel’s The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and its spin-off series, The Suite Life on Deck.

The original iCarly was a teen sitcom created by Dan Schneider. The Emmy-nominated series ran from 2007 to 2012. It follows Carly, Sam, and Freddie as they run their own web show and deal with school, Spencer’s insane ideas, and everything in between.

The reboot premieres on June 17, 2021 via Paramount+. – with reports from Adrian Soriano/Rappler.com
