The actor's acclaimed one-man show will be back on Broadway for the last time

BILLY'S BACK. The actor will bring his Tony Award-winning one-man show to Broadway in November

MANILA, Philippines – The show for which Billy Crystal was hailed the “King of Broadway” will be back in November.

“700 Sundays,” the autobiographical one-man show that won a Tony Award for Special Theatrical Event, broke box office records when it debuted in 2005. According to PlayBillVault.com, it earned US$1,061,689 in one week and swept a total of US$21-M for its Broadway run and national and international tours.

The show’s title is from the number of Sundays Crystal spent with his dad who died of a heart attack when Crystal was 16. Described on the show’s website as a “heartfelt and often hilarious story of growing up, growing old and the undeniable power of family,” it focuses on Crystal’s youth in Manhattan.

He portrays various roles based on his friends, family members and acquaintances to comic yet touching effect.  The show will run for 9 weeks starting November at the 1,400-seat Imperial Theatre in New York City. It will be the last run.

“‘700 Sundays’ has, without question, been the most satisfying experience of my career,” said Crystal, now 65 years old.

“I’m gratified to know that the love of family through joy and pain, is perhaps the most universal story. I’ve now decided to tell this story one last time in my own backyard, where it all took place. It is a privilege to return to Broadway to say goodbye to one of the greatest thrills of my life.”

Before its Broadway run, Crystal will perform 6 shows of “700 Sundays” in State Theatre in Minneapolis. – Rappler.com
