MANILA, Philippines – The pageant dates of Binibining Pilipinas and Miss Universe Philippines have been moved following the rise of novel coronavirus cases in the country.
Bb Pilipinas announced that from the original date of April 26, the coronation night will be on May 31 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Miss Universe Philippines (MUPh) on Saturday, March 14, said that from May 3, the finals night will now be on June 14 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“Pageant activities will be suspended with immediate effect to ensure the health and safety of our contestants, and for fans and production teams to focus on responding to the National Government’s recently implemented community quarantine,” it said.
“The Finals will now take place on 14 June 2020, Sunday. MUPh remains committed to taking Philippine pageantry to amazing new heights. Measured adjustments to the competition schedule and delivery of new and exciting events are being finalized and will be announced in the coming days and weeks,” the organization added.
MUPh said that in the meantime, it “will continue to post online tourism videos of the contestants so that amidst this challenge, we still can be reminded of the beauty of the Philippines worthy to be celebrated beyond our coastlines.”
President Rodrigo Duterte announced on March 12 that Metro Manila will be on a lockdown beginning Saturday, March 15, to stem the spread of COVID-19 which has killed 6 people in the country as of Friday night.
On Saturday, it was announced that Metro Manila will be placed under curfew from 8 pm to 5 am beginning Sunday, March 15 to coincide with the lockdown. The Metro Manila mayors have urged establishments such as malls to temporarily close prevent the spread of the new virus. – Rappler.com
