MANILA, Philippines – Wednesday can be the most difficult day of the week. You know you’re halfway through those 7 days, but the weekend remains elusive.
Here are a few things you can do to help you get through hump day:
1. Move your weekend cheat day to Wednesday
If you need just a little something to get you through, indulge in that craving. It could be a chocolate bar or it could be a steak dinner; to each his own.
If you only allow yourself one cheat day to indulge, consider moving that to the day when you feel you’ll most need a pick-me-up. Then on the weekends when you’ll have more time, plan a wellness day, where you focus on fitness, or plan a set of activities that will keep you busy, like a day trip to Pampanga or a weekend visit to Corregidor.
Is your office in the Mandaluyong area?
Try Kichitora of Tokyo located at 2/F Mega Atrium, SM Megamall for your Wednesday ramen fix. The Paitan Ramen in particular is a highlight on the menu.
Is your office in The Fort?
If you’re craving for something creamy and cheesy, try 2nd’s Truffled Three Cheese Mac with Spanish Chorizo. Forget the calories and just indulge. You deserve it after all. 2nd’s is located at 2/F Quadrant 3 Wumaco Bldg 1, 9th Ave.
Is your office in Makati?
For those who want a break from lunch at your desk or a quick sandwich. Try Chateau 1771 in Greenbelt 5 and order something new, like chicken with a twist, wrapped in sinful prosciutto.
Is your office in the Ortigas business district?
Try Wildflour at the Podium. It’s a place that’s not just for Croughnuts but for other filling meals as well.
While we’re on the subject of cheat day Wednesday…
2. Extend lunch OR find a new way to enjoy the whole hour
Instead of going for the usual long lunch on Fridays, move it to Wednesday – just like your cheat day. Then, take a quick lunch on Friday to leave you more time in order to finish your work for the day – that way, you can still leave the office by 6 or 7 pm and have a good time with your friends.
Make Wedesdays different by actually sitting down and enjoying your meal – save the meals at your desk for the other days of the week.
Here’s another idea: grab a very, very quick bite, and then use the hour to get a mani-pedi instead – or a nap, or watch an episode of your favorite half-hour sitcom. It’s all up to you.
Some gyms even have hour-long workouts scheduled specifically for office-based folks. Yoga+, for example, has a Power Hour scheduled at 12:30 to 1:30 pm on most weekdays to serve this particular need. Try to find a similar one in your working area!
3. Take advantage of ladies’ night promos
You are not alone in feeling bummed out during hump day and it might just be a good day to be female. Guys, show this to your female friends.
Just do a quick Google search on which bars have special ladies’ night promotions. Some offer 2 for the price of 1 on drinks; some even offer a free round for the ladies.
Girls, go out and unwind. Guys, tag along with the girls and split the bill. Either way, you all get discounts on drinks.

4. Find that one thing you can look forward to. Hang on to that like a talisman against bad vibes
We know you’re already looking forward to the weekend – badly. But you don’t have to feel bad about it being days away. You can use this time to plan early and put something together just in time for Friday night. Are you thinking of hitting a new club? Did you see a seat sale alert that’s perfect for that trip you’ve been dreaming of?
Take the time to do a bit of research (the fun kind). Check online which movies are playing this weekend, or pool together the people you’re going with for that short Tagaytay escapade. By Friday morning, you’ll probably have everything ready.
One thing that can give you a quick boost: check out the movies playing this weekend and make a date of it with your friends – anything to give you a bright spot in your day and can influence your mood positively.

5. Deliberately seek out inspiration – don’t wait for it to find you!
There’s nothing quite like seeing things from another person’s point of view to help you put everything in perspective. Don’t allow the mid-week blues to color the way you might relate to others. Read a funny comic, take a secret walk, watch an amazing video, read about someone’s wonderful achievement. It may just give you the little boost you didn’t know you needed.
