MANILA, Philippines – For many people looking for a post-work chicken and beer fix, Señor Pollo is a welcome and familiar sight.
The hole-in-the-wall Latin chicken restaurant first set up shop in Tomas Morato in 2014, has since expanded to Makati, and will open at Alabang Town Center in September.
We visted their Makati branch, along Ebro Street, late on a gloomy Tuesday afternoon and the bright murals in the open-air room were a warm sight. Groups of friends were laughing at our neighboring tables, enjoying drinks and sharing food as night – and rain – fell.
At the media’s table was a feast – a selection of their old and new dishes for us to try.
Señor Pollo is known for their roast chicken (Half with 2 sides P339, no sides P269) served with chimichurri, garlic, and chili sauces, but their fried chicken (3 pieces with 2 sides P305, no sides P119) is also great if you just want a few pieces for yourself.
They’ve got a wide selection of sides too, including spicy rice (P50), fried plantains (P40), patatas bravas (P80), garlic mashed potato (P55), mac n’ cheese (P65), sweet potato mash (P55), and cilantro garlic rice (P50).
Aside from chicken, Señor Pollo serves up big plates of food to share with friends.
Their nachos grande (P380) lives up to its name – a large plate of nachos topped with cheese, chicken, salsa, olives, and jalapeños.
Meanwhile, the crispy chicken sisig (P260), a new to their menu, and the chicharrones (P260) offer crunch and tender meat and would be perfect with a few beers.
Their quesadillas – we tried the cheese and garlic (P129) and grilled chicken quesadilla (P180) – are good options for a light snack or appetizer.
While beer seems to be the best option to wash all of this down, Señor Pollo’s cocktails are worth a try too. In the photo are the Cuba libre (P100), Latin punch (P130), limonada corrupta (P120), and el chapo.
We topped off our meal with dessert. Flan de Naranja (P150) is a rich, creamy classic leche flan, while the dulce de leche cheesecake (P150) is a delicious and unique option.
