MANILA, Philippines – For those who want to feel like a kid again and have a fun workout at the same time, there is a new place you can try. Trampoline Park Zero Gravity Zone at The Portal in Greeenfields District, Mandaluyong calls to mind childhood experiences from the past as one jumps, hops, and bounces on their trampolines.
“I decided to bring it here and found out there weren’t any trampoline parks in the Philippines. So I decided, the Filipino public will love this. And I saw how popular it was globally, not just in the UK but also in the US, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore, so it’s really spreading around the globe,” says co-owner Mark Hogsden.
The park opened Tuesday, February 9, and when we visited during the soft opening a day before, there were some parts of the park that were still being fixed. The trampoline area itself, though, was ready.
Reminders:
- Each participant will have to pay *P320 for an hour inside the park.
- Before entering the trampoline area, participants are asked to watch a safety video and listen to the rules of the staff on how to jump properly on a trampoline.
- Lockers are provided for those who want to store their belongings.
- You’re required to wear thick socks with rubber underneath them if you’ll be jumping. If you don’t have a pair, you can buy those kinds of socks at P80 at the counter.
- Once you enter trampoline area, you can jump non-stop.
- Some of the activities one can do include volleyball, basketball, dodge ball, and you can even jump into an area full of purple and yellow foam.
Parkour attendants are also on hand to teach the proper ways of jumping, and some were even doing somersaults around the area.
As I started jumping and bouncing on the trampoline, it reminded me of the kids’ TV series, Disney’s Adventures of the Gummi Bears. In the show, the bears would drink a potion called “Gummi berry juice,” which allowed them to bounce away from their enemies.
Though it’s great fun, Mark said it would be better to consult a doctor before trying out trampolining because it does get the heart rate going.
“All our staff, they have to pass a first aid course to be able to work in our trampoline park… so yes they got training, a lot of them are professionals in parkour and certified fitness instructors, certified zumba instructors. So everyone we’ve researched and employed here has experience in what they do for a long time and got training already,” Mark said.
