What to expect for #ThinkPH 2016
The 3rd #ThinkPH Tech Summit will take place on July 21 in Metro Manila. Book your tickets here

MANILA, Philippines — On July 21, Rappler will be hosting its 3rd #ThinkPH summit.

This year, we’re going back to the basics of disruptive thinking.

Flipping business models, doing the undoable, taking so-called crazy ideas and making them work – this is how we understand the concept of disruption. It’s the reason behind the success of companies like Facebook and Google.

Like Salim Ismail says in his book Exponential Organizations: “Today, if you’re not disrupting yourself, someone else will; your faith is either to be the disrupter or the disrupted. There is no middle ground.”

For those who are still resisting the change, this is a wake-up call.

Disruptive Thinking, v.2016

In 2013, big data was the latest tech buzzword. Organizations wanted to learn how to harvest and analyze huge amounts of information and use it to make better decisions. Big data gave companies an edge by providing closer and more detailed insights into society and human behaviour.

Big data proved useful not just for private companies. During Rappler’s inaugural #ThinkPH summit, Grace Poe gave a talk on how big data in social media helped win her senatorial bid in 2013.

PLATFORM THINKING. ThinkPH 2015 with Sangeet Paul Choudary on 4 things entrepreneurs should know about Platform Thinking. Photo by LeAnne Jazul / Rappler

In 2015, we tackled platform thinking. In his keynote speech, renowned industry analyst Sangeet Paul Choudary explained how a business no longer had to create products to generate profit. Instead, a disruptive company can become a platform for consumers and creators to share amongst themselves what they wanted and needed.

Companies such as Uber and AirBnB have used platform thinking to disrupt their respective industries. Today, many tech startups are trying to replicate their formula. We’ve all heard about the latest “Uber of X” or “The AirBnB for Y.”

Break the new norm

Every other company is racing to create the next innovation that will change the world.

In the sea of innovations and new technology, how can your business stay afloat and disrupt the existing cycle?

At this year’s #ThinkPH summit, we will go back to basics and question the exisiting rules of disruptive thinking. Together with our roster of local and international industry experts, we will discuss how any organization, from industry leaders to tech startups, can harness creativity, technology, and innovation towards progress and nation building.
