On June 26 at 6pm, Rappler hosts a Hangout to discuss violence against women in the Philippine context

MANILA, Philippines – Globally, 30% of women have been victims of violence by an intimate partner. When taking into account sexual violence by a non-partner, the global figure rises to 35.6%

These staggering figures released by the World Health Organization (WHO) show how violence against women has grown by epidemic proportions.

On Wednesday, June 26, Rappler columnist, Ana P. Santos will host a Rappler Google Hangout to discuss violence against women in the Philippine context: how cultural and societal factors such as the absence of divorce may influence violence against women.

Interventions such as the Philippine National Police all-female police force known as Aleng Pulis and an organization opposed to violence led by men will also be discussed.
