As early as the COC filing, Filipinos in the provinces can help serve as eyes and ears on the ground and keep watch of who will be vying for local seats in their area.

The crowdsourced information can be used by local community organizers and other voters in your area to start their research and help make an informed decision in 2022.

Remember that the work for 2022 starts long before we fill up the ballots.

As part of its voter registration campaign, election watchdog Legal Network for Truthful Elections (LENTE) Philippines provided free transportation service to the Tagbanua community of Puerto Princesa City on Monday, September 27.

With the support of the Puerto Princesa City Comelec, 55 members of the Tagbanua Tribe  from Sitio Sto. Nino, Brgy Napsan and Sitio Isang Lahi, and  Brgy. Bagong Bayan were given free transportation so they could register to vote. 

A week ago, LENTE also launched a voter registration drive project that aims to provide transportation for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and indigenous peoples from their place of residence going to the Commission on Elections field offices and vice versa. For more information about this initiative, visit their page here.

A province-wide voters’ education campaign for the Capizeño youths dubbed “C-Leksyon: Capisnon sa Maalam nga Pagpiniliay,” was launched online on Saturday, September 25, to educate and empower voters of their important role in the upcoming 2022 Philippine elections.

The initiative, organized by the Borres Youth Leadership Institute Inc. with the support of the National Youth Commission and the Provincial SK Federation of Capiz, will run from October 2021 to March 2022.

This province-wide voters’ education campaign will be conducted in open spaces every weekend. It will include a combination of lectures, presentations, and small group sharing activities.

To encourage more qualified Ilonggos to register to vote, Comelec and civil society groups in Iloilo opened satellite registration sites across the city. This initiative is in partnership with YouVote of Global Shapers Iloilo Hub, Ka-Ilongga Organization, iLead Training, and Prometheus, among others.

The satellite registration, located in SM City Iloilo, Ateneo de Iloilo, BJMP Male and Female Dormitory, University of the Philippines Visayas, University of Iloilo, Festive Walk Mall, City Mall Parola, Robinsons Jaro, and Robinsons Iloilo, started on Friday, September 10.

In areas under MECQ, sites are open during Mondays to Saturdays, including holidays from 8am to 5pm. Registration is extended up to 7pm in places under GCQ and MGCQ. 

Qualified applicants need to bring one valid ID, face mask and face shield, ballpen, registration form, health declaration form, and supplementary form.

As of September 25, over 14,000 new voters have been registered. The satellite registration is available until September 30.

Senators exasperated by the refusal of the Commission on Elections to grant their request for a one-month extension of voter registration made good on their threat to use the poll body’s 2022 budget as leverage.

On Friday, September 24, the Senate finance panel deferred action on the proposed 2022 budget of the poll body until the commission en banc reconsiders their appeal to move the registration deadline to October 31, 2021, from September 30.
