MANILA, Philippines – Ilocos Norte has been put under the state of calamity due to Typhoon Ineng (international name Goni), the Provincial Government said in a statement on Saturday, August 22.
The Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) reported 75,348 individuals in 221 barangays affected by the typhoon which caused massive flooding. Several areas in the province are still impassible due to severe flooding.
Relief goods amounting to P230,000 ($4,900) have been distributed.
Meanwhile, damage to agriculture and infrastructure in the province have reached at least P457 million ($9.8 million) as of latest count.
According to Governor Maria Imelda “Imee” Marcos, the province will be on red alert until Tuesday, August 25. They will also to seek for continuous support for those affected such as medicines, relief operations, and immediate attention to infrastructure damages.
The latest weather bulletin of state weather bureau PAGASA reported that Typhoon Ineng has weakened and is expected to be out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Monday evening, August 24. – Rappler.com
