Hours after her release in Sulu, Marites Flor gets an audience with President-elect Rodrigo Duterte

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Freed kidnap victim Marites Flor arrived in Davao on Friday afternoon, June 24, to meet with President-elect Rodrigo Duterte.

Flor, who was released by the Abu Sayyaf early Friday, arrived at the airport here with Jesus Dureza, the incoming administration’s peace adviser. Dureza and Flor left Jolo in Sulu on an RPC 1432 Learjet from at around 1:26 pm.

Dureza said that Flor will be meeting with Duterte at the Davao City Police Station.

Flor is the Filipino kidnapped by the Abu Sayyaf with 3 others in Davao del Norte in September 2015.

According to intelligence reports reaching Rappler, Flor was released in front of the house of Sulu Governor Abdusakur Tan II in Jolo, Sulu, at around 4:30 am on Friday.

Flor was the lone Philippine citizen abducted from Samal Island in Davao del Norte province back in 2015. Also kidnapped were two Canadians and a Norwegian.

One of the Canadians, Robert Hall, was Flor’s boyfriend. He was beheaded by the Abu Sayyaf on June 13.

John Ridsdel, a Canadian, suffered the same fate in April. In both cases, they were killed after a ransom deadline passed.

The Norwegian hostage, Kjartan Sekkingstad, remains in captivity. – Rappler.com
