2 drug suspects killed in Bataan, cop injured

PAMPANGA, Philippines – Two brothers suspected to be involved in illegal drugs were killed while an undercover policeman was injured in an alleged shootout in Dinalupihan town in nearby Bataan province on Wednesday, July 13. 

The Bataan Provincial Police Office identified the slain suspects as Rolando Cayanan and Arnel Cayanan. Rolando is listed no. 1 in the Dinalupihan municipal police’s list of drug personalities.

Last week, at least 7 suspected drug pushers were killed in alleged shootouts with the police in different parts of Central Luzon.

Last July 7, Reynaldo Tintero, 58, was shot dead by city policemen after he refused to accept the court-issued search warrant in his residence in Purok 4-B of Pampang village, Angeles City. The suspect was reportedly armed with a .22 caliber homemade semi-rifle loaded with a single bullet.

Last July 8, Nelson Enriquez, alias “Rambo”, was gunned down by intelligence agents of the Pampanga Provincial Police in Moras Dela Paz village, Santo Tomas, Pampanga. Enriquez allegedly shot it out with cops using his .38 caliber revolver.

On July 9, two Muslim residents of Calapacuan village in Subic town, Zambales were killed in a reported shootout with the police during an anti-illegal drugs operation. The slain suspects were identified as Isnani Rhenie Sabturani, who was reportedly armed with a .38 caliber revolver, and Abdurasal Abdurasib, reportedly armed with a 9mm pistol.

On July 10, a suspected drug pusher identified as Louie Santos, was killed in a buy-bust operation in Orani, Bataan. The suspect allegedly drew a Magnum 357 revolver and pointed it to an undercover policeman who bought P1,000 worth of shabu from him.

Month-long surveillance

In the latest Dinalupihan incident, Bataan policemen said they conducted a month-long surveillance on the 2 suspects.

Around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, an undercover policeman was able to buy two sachets of shabu from the Cayanan brothers using marked money. The two reportedly sensed it was a trap, thus the supposed shootout that followed.

Found in the crime scene were the guns used by the suspects, 20 pieces of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu), and the marked P1,000 bill.

The injured policeman was brought to the Jose C. Payumo Memorial Hospital in Dinalupihan town. – Rappler.com
