Duterte to reveal Trillanes bank account ‘partners’

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte said his planned revelation of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s bank accounts will expose not only his offshore deposits, but his supposed partners as well.

“I will reveal it. Just wait. And the names of the partners, I will reveal it: Their accounts and where [they made deposits],” Duterte told Davao-based journalists in a gathering at the Matina Enclaves late Friday night, September 22.

The President accused the opposition senator of keeping multiple accounts.

“There’s a lot of them, in small amounts. Because if you make huge deposits, that will cause a red flag…what more in banks outside the Philippines,” he said.

On September 18, Trillanes flew to Singapore to counter Duterte’s claims that he holds two bank accounts in DBS Bank and another in “Hongkong Shanghai Bank.”

The next day, DBS Bank Alexandra Road said they have no account holders with number 178000296012, the account Trillanes presented to a bank teller, in response to Duterte’s earlier allegations.

Duterte later made fun of Trillanes, saying the number he presented in the Singapore bank was merely his invention. He claimed that the senator has accounts in Malaysia, Australia, United States, and Hong Kong, among others.

Both Trillanes and Duterte have traded barbs since the 2016 campaign period. Back then, the opposition senator accused Duterte of holding over P2.4 billion worth of deposits in a Bank of the Philippine Islands account. – Rappler.com
