LOOK: 22-story condominium for the poor to rise in San Juan City
The planned in-city relocation will be 22 stories tall, with units to be as big as 36 square meters

MANILA, Philippines – San Juan City is pushing for an in-city relocation plan and will erect a 22-story condominium for the poor, new Mayor Francis Zamora said on Monday, July 8.

The property will be developed behind the city’s 6-story government center located just a hundred meters away from the city hall.

Groundbreaking for the P188 million-government center was conducted on Monday.

Zamora said he will push for the high rise condominium with units as big as 36 square meters to cover the most beneficiaries amid high land prices.

“Ang mga nare-relocate ngayon doon pa sa Bulacan at Rizal, pero kung maitatayo ito, hindi na kailangan pang lumabas sa San Juan,” Zamora said.

(Those that are relocated now have to go all the way to Bulacan and Rizal, but if the condominium is constructed, there is no need to go out of San Juan.)

The new mayor said the local government is now talking to the National Housing Authority and the Department of Public Works and Highways for the project. He has yet to determine the cost and number of beneficiaries. –Rappler.com
