Ex-radioman shot dead in Dagupan

PANGASINAN, Philippines — A former local radio reporter in Dagupan City was shot dead around 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 22, by a still unidentified gunman in Sitio Kalamiong, Barangay  Bonuan Catacdang, in the same city.

Melanio Balolong, formerly of Bombo Radyo Dagupan, succumbed to gunshot shot wounds from caliber .45 pistol. The victim, 62 years old and married, became a fishpond caretaker after his stint in broadcast media.

Police investigators said Balolong was sitting inside his nipa hut on Paras Street in Barangay Bonuan Gueset when he was approached by a lone gunman, who shot him point-blank. Police recovered two empty shells  at the crime scene.

The suspect fled on board a black Honda wave motorcycle with unknown plate number.

Superintendent Christopher Abrahano, city police chief, said probers have yet to establish motive for the killing. Balolong’s family reported having received death threats but would not disclose details of these yet, Abrahano said. — Rappler.com
