MANILA, Philippines – On the eve of the 115^th Philippine Independence Day, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) issued a traffic advisory for roads that will be affected by the celebrations.

The National Organizing Committee (NOC) led by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) announced last week that both the Liwasang Bonifacio and the Rizal Monument will host several activities such as flag-raising and wreath laying ceremonies.

This year’s celebrations will also pay tribute to Andres Bonifacio on his sesquicentennial year.

Free ride, closed roads

The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) and Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) will offer free Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) rides on Wednesday, June 12, just as it has done for the past few years.

Passengers can ride for free from 7 am to 9 am and from 5 pm to 7 pm at LRT Lines 1 and 2, as well as MRT Line 3.

Due to the Liwasang Bonifacio rites to be led by President Benigno Aquino III, the following roads will be closed starting at 5:00 pm Tuesday, June 11: Postal Road/Muelle del Rio, Magallanes Drive extension from Jones Bridge to McArthur Bridge.

The southbound lanes of Dasmariñas/Plaza Sta. Cruz, Escolta/Plaza Sta. Cruz, McArthur Bridge, and the northbound lane of Jones Bridge will be closed starting at 6 am Wednesday, June 12.

Re-routing of vehicles will also take place.

According to MMDA, vehicles straight from Jones flyover intending to pass through Magallanes Drive Ext. will have to go straight to Jones Bridge/Quintin Paredes instead.

Those coming from Rizal Avenue intending to utilize the southbound lane of McArthur Bridge will have to use the Dasmariñas St., turn left at Juan Luna, another left at Plaza Cervantes and turn right at Jones Bridge.

As for the Laguna and Cavite buses headed to Lawton/Park N Ride via Taft Ave., they must turn right at UN Ave. and another right at San Marcelino instead.

The available parking areas at Liwasang Bonifacio are as follows:

• VIP’s: Inside Post Office parking area
• Participants: fronting Metropolitan Theater Media – Mehan Garden – Magallanes Drive fronting NPC and Immigration

Rizal Monument

Both the north and southbound lanes of Roxas Blvd from Katigbak to TM Kalaw in Manila will be closed tomorrow from 6 am onwards for the celebrations at the Rizal Monument.

All vehicles coming from the northern part of Manila intending to pass via the Southbound lane of Roxas Blvd. will have to turn left at P. Burgos, turn right at Ma. Orosa, and another right at TM Kalaw.

Those coming from the southern part of Manila headed for the northbound lane of Roxas blvd. must turn right at TM Kalaw, turn left at Ma. Orosa, and another left at P. Burgos.

Number coding for Metro Manila vehicles will be lifted. – Rappler.com
