MANILA, Philippines – Former Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) governor Lininding Pangandaman died Tuesday dawn, October 15, ARMM’s public information office said. 

He was in his late 80s, according to a report from the Philippine Star

Pangandaman, a lawyer, served as the 2nd elected regional governor of ARMM from 1993 to 1996 before Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) founding chairman Nur Misuari. 

Prior to this, Pangandaman was a diplomat who was actively involved in Islamic affairs under the Marcos adminisitration. He served as one of the Marcos government’s negotiators with the MNLF in talks that led to the signing of the 1976 Tripoli Agreement. 

Another ARMM leader, Ali Bashir Lucman, also passed away last week. 

“The region is in deep sorrow over the death of two of its past leaders – Lininding Pangandaman, former ARMM governor, and Ali Bashir Lucman, who once served as chairman of the defunct Lupong Tagapagpaganap ng Pook. We extend our deepest condolences to their bereaved families as the region shares their grief,” Amir Mawallil, director of ARMM’s information office, said in a statement. – Rappler.com
