MANILA, Philippines – It’s yet another presidential joke.

President Benigno S. Aquino III himself had admitted several times that he is unlucky in love. But is it enough to push him into the priesthood?

While discussing government measures to reduce the operating cost of public transport groups at the National Transport Conference in Marikina City on Monday, the 52-year-old bachelor quipped that he would pursue a “late vocation” by the end of his term in 2016.

“Tiyak ko po sa matitipid na pera’t extra income ng ating mga drayber, lalo kayong magiging sweet lover, tulad ng mga kasama ko sa entablado, maliban sa akin. Ako po ay magpapari sa 2016,” the President said, eliciting laughter.

He said this is called “late vocation,” or a decision to enter the priesthood much later in life, which again drew laughter from the mostly male audience.

Although he had repeatedly appealed to the media to spare his personal life, Mr Aquino has been open about the state of his love life. In a news conference in Baler, Aurora, in February, the President said that he has been looking for his mate since his college days but had just been “unlucky.”

Mr. Aquino’s last known steady date is Korean radio and television personality Grace Lee, but the two had reportedly called it quits less than three months after he confirmed that they were seeing each other. – Rappler.com
