MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III has appointed new members to two attached agencies of the Department of Education: the National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT), and the Early Childhood Care and Development Council (ECCD).

Ramon Osorio and Luis Gatmaitan were appointed members of the NCCT on June 18. Osorio will be representing the broadcast media sector; Gatmaitan, the child development specialists sector.

NCCT – established in 1997 – is mandated to set standards and to formulate policies for children’s television.

The attached agency is also in charge of researching about the television viewing habits of Filipino children and monitoring television programs.

 

Osorio is vice president and the chief corporate communications officer of ABS-CBN, while Gatmaitan is a doctor and an award-winning author of children’s books. 

Both appointees will serve for a term of 3 years. 

Meanwhile, Emerita Garon is the newly-appointed member of ECCD. She will represent the private sector in the council’s governing board. 

ECCD was established to ensure children aged 0-6 years are provided access to early childhood care and development, including health, nutrition, early education, and other social services promoting the growth and development of children.
