A cop from the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP HPG) was arrested for robbery-extortion in Cabdbaran City in Agusan Del Norte on Monday, May 24. 

Police Staff Sergeant Ronelo Tering-tering was arrested by the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP IMEG) after he demanded P10,000 (around $207) from an individual in exchange for the release of the person’s mini dump truck impounded at the HPG office. 

The cop was arrested shortly after receiving the marked money during an entrapment operation. 

Tering-tering is currently under the custody of PNP Mindanao Field Unit, while appropriate charges are being prepared against him. 

On April 30, a policeman in Cagayan province was also arrested by the PNP IMEG after extorting money from individuals arrested for sabong (cockfighting) in Peñablanca town. 

Prior to that, 11 policemen were also relieved over robbery, extortion, and rape complaints in Cebu City on March 31. – Rappler.com
