Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana tested positive again for COVID-19 virus, the defense chief confirmed to reporters on Wednesday night, November 17.

During the Senate plenary hearings for the 2022 budget on Wednesday, Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri announced that the Senate Sergeant-at-arms inform them that Lorenzana tested positive for the virus.

Lorenzana said he was asymptomatic.

“Hello everyone, yes, I am covid positive. This morning I got the result of my  swab test yesterday afternoon after the senate hearing. I am a symptomatic,” Lorenzana said in a message to reporters.

The defense chief, a senior citizen, is also fully vaccinated. According to Lorenzana, he will undergo another swab test after a few days.

Lorenzana attended the Senate plenary hearing yesterday for the 2022 budget of the defense department and its attached agencies. According to Zubiri, the hearings might be delayed due to the exposure of some attendees to the defense chief.

“Baka ihinto muna ang hearings bukas dahil sa exposure guys. We may have to resume on Monday na para maka pag RT-PCR test kami lahat over the weekend (We might suspend the hearings starting tomorrow due to the exposure. We may have to resume on Monday to facilitate our RT-PCR testing over the weekend),” Zubiri said in a message to reporters.

In April this year, Lorenzana also tested positive for the virus.

Even Zubiri tested positive for the virus at least twice.

Zubiri first contracted the virus in mid-March in 2020, after interacting with a supposed COVID-19 patient at the Senate.

In July 2020, Zubiri announced that he tested positive for the virus again, which caused him to skip the State of the Nation Address of President Rodrigo Duterte that year. – With a report with Mara Cepeda/ Rappler
