MANILA, Philippines – More rain is in the forecast for most parts of the country Wednesday, May 15, as the transition from the dry season to the wet season draws near.

The onset of the rainy season is still expected by the 3rd week of May, and the formation of rain clouds is becoming faster thus causing more rain in many areas, PAGASA forecaster Gener Quitlong told Rappler.

He said that as the estimated onset of the rainy season draws near, many parts of the country should expect more rain especially later in the day.

However, warm, humid weather associated with the Filipino summer will continue, particularly in the morning and midday, Quitlong said.

24-hour forecast

As with the past several days, the diffused tail-end of a cold front and an intetropical convergence zone (ITCZ) are the two weather systems affecting the country, the state weather bureau’s 24-hour public weather forecast, released late Tuesday, May 14, said.

Northern Luzon is feeling the effects of the cold front, bringing rain to large parts of the island, while the ITCZ affects southern Mindanao.

With these systems, Mindanao, Western Visayas, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Central Luzon, Cagayan Valley, Ilocos Region, and Metro Manila will have cloudy skies accompanied by light to moderate rain and thunderstorms.

Bicol and the rest of the Visayas will have partly cloudy skies with isolated rain or thunderstorms.
