Isang slows down, nears north Luzon

MANILA, Philippines – Storm warning signal #1 is still in effect over 11 provinces as tropical depression Isang continues to move towards northeast Luzon Tuesday, July 16.

Isang slowed down a bit Tuesday morning, and was located 280 km east of Baler, Aurora (15.4°N, 124.5°E) as of 10 am, carrying maximum winds of 45 km/h near the center, PAGASA said in its 11 am bulletin.

Signal number 1 is still in effect over the following provinces:

  • Ilocos Norte
  • Ilocos Sur
  • Abra
  • Ifugao
  • Cagayan incl.Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands
  • Isabela
  • Quirino
  • Aurora
  • Mt. Province
  • Kalinga
  • Apayao

It is currently moving west northwest as a speed of 13 km/h, and will be in the vicinity of Isabela by Wednesday morning (July 17).

The effects of Isang will extend beyond northwest Luzon as it enhances the Southwest Monsoon, bringing light to moderate rain over Mimaropa, Calabarzon, Bicol, and Western Visayas.

Moderate to heavy rainfall can be expected in areas within the system’s 300 km diameter.
