The friendly relations between China and the Philippines under President Rodrigo Duterte have paved the way for the entry of more Chinese investments to the country over the past 4 years.

Yet a bulk of these investments are private and not from the Chinese government.

On Tuesday, September 15, Rappler editor-at-large Marites Vitug speaks to international development scholar Alvin Camba on what Chinese investments in the Philippines mean and what we can expect from China-funded projects.

Camba is a PhD candidate at the Johns Hopkins University studying China’s structural and instrumental powers. He is also a non-resident fellow at the Stratbase-Alberto Del Rosario Institute and the Paramadina Institute for Public Policy.

How will the Philippines’ relations with China play out in the coming years?
