MANILA, Philippines – It rained gold for the Philippine Canoe Kayak Federation (PCKF) Dragon Boat Team in Milan, Italy during the International Canoe Federation (ICF) Dragon Boat World Championship 2012 on August 30 to September 2, 2012.
The team brought home 6 golds and a silver medal, the SunStar reported–one each for the seven categories they joined.
The 7 medals were enough to tie the Philippines at third with the Hungarian team, according to the ICF. Leading all other countries was Russia with a total of 14 gold medals. Canada came in at second with 9 medals.
It was all gold for the three 200 meter events (20 paddlers seniors mixed,10 paddlers seniors mixed, and 10 paddlers seniors men), while the 500 meter events resulted in 3 golds and one silver (10 paddlers seniors men, two for the 20 paddlers seniors mixed, and the 10 paddlers seniors mixed).
The Philippine Consulate General and members of the Filipino community in Milan went to the competition sites to cheer on the Philippine athletes, according to a statement from the Foreign Affairs Department.
The team returned to the Philippines on Tuesday, September 4.
