MANILA, Philippines – Filipino-American fighter Phillipe Nover failed to hoist the Philippine flag aloft in the co-headliner of UFC Fight Night 95 on on Saturday, September 24 (Sunday, September 25 in Manila) at the Nilson Nelson Gymnasium in Brasília, Brazil.
Nover suffered a unanimous decision loss at the hands of former UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao in their 3-round featherweight encounter, with the Brazilian earning the scores of 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27.
Although Barao had a slow start in his meeting with Nover, he found his groove in the succeeding rounds, where he outgunned and outwrestled his Fil-Am opponent.
Barao bombarded Nover with a combination of lashing leg kicks and crisp counterpunching and kept his cage counterpart guessing by halting his momentum before it could build.
In addition, Barao pulled off a brilliant approach of snatching away rounds from Nover in the dying seconds of each period with quick takedowns.
With the impressive victory over Nover, Barao snaps his two-fight losing skid and improves his professional standing to 34-4, 1 NC.
Meanwhile, Nover tastes his second-straight setback inside the Octagon and downgrades to a 11-7-1 prizefighting record. – Rappler.com
