PH to host China’s HoopBattle Championship as 3×3 Olympics debut nears
The Philippines will be the first to host HBC event outside China

MANILA, Philippines – Amid growing popularity of 3-on-3 basketball, China’s HoopBattle Championship (HBC) has decided to hold its 3×3 tournament for the first time in the Philippines, which was formally launched in a press conference at Ayala Malls Vertis North, Tuesday, May 8.

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas-sanctioned (SBP) event to be held in various Ayala Malls across Metro Manila, will give Filipinos a chance to play in the HBC Finals in China for cash prizes and prepare the country for the entry of 3-on-3 basketball in the 2020 Olympics.

The tournament will run from July 1 to 29 and will feature 48 teams composed of Filipinos and imports. Any player above 18 years old is allowed to join and a maximum of one female player per team is also allowed.

The team selection process will go through a panel composed of members from SBP, HBC, ABS-CBN Sports & Action, Virtual Playground and host Ayala Malls. Once chosen, the players will be asked to register with FIBA to aid in official rankings.

Deadline for team registration is on June 3. Aspiring teams can soon view the details of the league and download the application forms at www.hoopsbattle.ph.
