PWR suspends wrestler after dangerous spot at ‘Wrevolution X’
James 'Idol' Martinez gets sanctioned for doing a fiery stunt that wasn't cleared with PWR officials

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Wrestling Revolution (PWR) suspended one of its wrestlers after a dangerous spot gone wrong at its biggest annual event.

In a statement on its Facebook page on Thursday, May 24, PWR officially announced the suspension of James “Idol” Martinez from active competition due to what happened at Wrevolution X on Sunday, May 20, in Makati City.

During a 6-man hardcore All Out War Match, Martinez climbed the ring, doused his body with alcohol, lit himself on fire, and jumped onto the wrestlers at ringside.

However, the flame didn’t immediately go out as expected, prompting fellow wrestlers and ringside crew to rush in and put the flame out.

A PWR official confirmed to Rappler that Martinez’s spot wasn’t cleared with them before the match.

“PWR is committed to providing the safest possible environment for its performers, personnel, and audience members. Any factor that could endanger them will be treated with the utmost seriousness and importance,” said PWR in its statement.

Martinez sustained skin burns from his stunt. “PWR wishes Mr. Martinez a speedy recovery,” the company added.
