Donaire’s pregnant wife saves drowning kid

MANILA, Philippines – The very pregnant Rachel Donaire, wife of Filipino boxing champ Nonito Donaire Jr, was admitted to a hospital after injuring herself while saving a drowning child.

The “Filipino Flash” – who was named ESPN’s Boxer of the Year in 2012 but lost in his last fight against Guillermo Rigondeaux in April 2013 – alerted the world about his wife’s condition through the microblogging site Twitter.

Wifey admitted into ER for fetal monitoring. Shes full term but not due for another 17 days. Praying things are ok.

About an hour later, a post on Donaire’s Twitter account revealed more details about the incident.

“During 4th of July, a friend’s son disappeared underneath the water. Rachel didn’t hesitate to jump in to save the child but injured herself in the process.”

The 4-division world boxing champion admitted: “She moved so quickly it scared me.” 

Rachel was monitored in the hospital for over an hour. She felt a sharp pain when she woke up and was diagnosed with a strained ligament. The good news is – the doctors said the baby was not affected.

The “Knockout Queen” was ordered to stay in bed for a couple of days.

Rachel is on her 9th month of pregnancy with the couple’s first child. They are expecting a boy.
