MANILA, Philippines – The stage is set for the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s inaugural Philippine live event tomorrow night as 24 fighters made weight during the official weigh-in at the 20,000-capacity SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila.
All eyes are on the headlining bout as two-division world champion Urijah Faber faces former UFC lightweight titleholder Frankie Edgar in a five-round featherweight super-fight.
Both men tipped the scales at the allowable non-title limit of 146 pounds, giving the green light for the highly-anticipated clash between two decorated combatants from the lower weight classes.
Filipino-American wrestler Mark Muñoz was also cleared to compete as he checked in at 186 pounds for his farewell match against English middleweight Luke Barnatt, who weighed 185 pounds.
Aside from Muñoz, four Filipino fighters are also scheduled to take part of UFC Fight Night 66.
Mark Eddiva (145 pounds) battles Levan Makashvili (145 pounds) in a three-round featherweight tussle, while his teammate Roldan Sangcha-an (126 pounds) aims to claim his first UFC triumph as he squares off with Guamanian flyweight Jon delos Reyes (125 pounds)
Phillipe Nover (145 pounds) will make his return to the UFC after five years of wandering outside the confines of the organization as he faces Korean featherweight Yui Chul Nam (146 pounds).
Meanwhile, Nolan Ticman (126 pounds) seeks to put himself back on the winning track by squaring off with Chinese stalwart Yao Zhikui (125 pounds). – Rappler.com
