Injured De Ocampo to join Gilas in Estonia
Ranidel De Ocampo was initially in doubt to join the trip due to his injury

MANILA, Philippines – Injured forward Ranidel de Ocampo will be joining Gilas Pilipinas in its week-long trip to Estonia for training camp and a pocket tournament, team manager Butch Antonio confirmed to Rappler Sunday, August 16 via a text message.

De Ocampo, 33, is still nursing an injured right hamstring he sustained from a Talk ‘N Text practice session. Antonio clarified the Gilas veteran won’t be seeing action in Estonia, a northern European country.

De Ocampo, who has been present in practices despite being unable to play, was initially in doubt to join the trip due to his injury.

The Gilas pool, which now also includes consensus 2015 PBA Draft top pick Moala Tautuaa, will be competing in a pocket tournament against teams from the Netherlands, Iceland, and Estonia.

They are also slated to participate in the William Jones Cup in Taiwan from August 29 to September 6, as well as in the locally hosted MVP Cup from September 11 to 13.

To date, confirmed participants of the MVP Cup are the Wellington Saints of New Zealand, Lebanon National Team and the Chinese Taipei National Team, according to former Gilas head coach and Sports5 head Chot Reyes.

The team is expected to leave for Estonia Monday, August 17 and will be back in Manila the following week on August 24. – Rappler.com
