With Gilas Pilipinas lacking height, naturalized NBA veteran Andray Blatche was a welcome addition to the team when he assumed Filipino citizenship earlier this year in time for the FIBA World Cup.
A product of Syracuse, New York, Andray Blatche averaged 27.5 PPG, 16 RPG, and 6 BPG for South Kent High School, whom he would lead to a 32-9 record.
Blatche opted to forego college and declare for the 2005 NBA Draft, wherein he was picked 49th overall by the Washington Wizards. In the 2010-2011 NBA season, Blatche had his best averages yet for the Wizards – 16.8 PPG, 8.3 RPG, and 2.3 APG. After ending ties with Washington, Blatche moved to Brooklyn where he helped the Nets by being a steady contributor off the bench.
Blatche has always had a reliable post game thanks to his combination of size and girth. Surprisingly, Blatche also has well-rounded dribbling skills which enable him to face-up defenders and use some of his athleticism to blow by slower defenders. He’s not as spot-on as Jimmy Alapag, but leaving Blatche’s open mid-range jumper could be harmful for Gilas’ counterparts. – Rappler.com
