Gilas Pilipinas nearly pulls off the improbable against world No. 5 Serbia in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament

Serbia survived a gritty stand from Gilas Pilipinas, 83-76, to secure its second win in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Belgrade on Wednesday, June 30 (Thursday, July 1, Manila time).

Ranked No. 5 in the world, the Serbians – bannered by NBA standouts and battle-tested veterans – were tagged as the heavy favorite against a Filipino crew composed mostly of collegiate stars.

Serbia was led by the likes of Dallas Mavericks big man Boban Marjanovic, Miami Heat forward Nemanja Bjelica, and 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic silver medalist Milos Teodosic.
