Former PBA coach Bill Bayno resigns from Pacers, cites mental health

Former PBA coach and Indiana Pacers assistant Bill Bayno submitted his resignation, citing personal and health reasons, the team announced on Monday, February 8.

According to ESPN, Bayno intends to address his mental health.

Bayno, 58, had been on a leave of absence for the past two weeks. He had served as a Pacers assistant since 2016, first under Nate McMillan and then under new head coach Nate Bjorkgren.

Bayno has coped with personal losses in the past couple years, including the deaths of both of his parents, ESPN reported. He also lost “multiple close friends” during the past year, according to the report.

Before joining the Pacers, Bayno served as an assistant coach with the Portland Trail Blazers, Minnesota Trail Blazers and Toronto Raptors.

He served as the head coach for UNLV from 1995 to 2000, compiling a 94-64 record and twice reaching the NCAA Tournament, and Talk N’ Text in the PBA in 2002.

He also was the head coach of Loyola Marymount at the start of the 2008-09 season before leaving due to health issues.

ESPN reported that Bayno is open to returning to coaching when he is ready. – Rappler.com
