Suns sign Isaiah Thomas to another 10-day contract

The Phoenix Suns signed veteran guard Isaiah Thomas to a second 10-day contract on Saturday, March 30 (Sunday, March 31, Manila time).

Thomas, 35, has appeared in two games for the Suns since signing the initial 10-day deal March 20. He is averaging 2.5 points, 1.0 assists and 4.5 minutes per game and is shooting 40 percent from the floor, 50 percent from long distance.

His second contract expires April 9, when the Suns have four games left in the regular season.

The league allows for clubs to sign a player for up to two 10-day contracts before they either sign him for the remainder of the season or he becomes a free agent.

Thomas hadn’t played in an NBA game in 23 months when he signed with Phoenix. He was averaging 32.5 points and made 25 three-pointers in four games for the Salt Lake City Stars of the G League.

An NBA All-Star in 2016 and 2017, Thomas finished fifth in NBA MVP voting when he averaged 28.9 points for the Boston Celtics during the 2016-17 season.

Thomas has played for 10 NBA teams, including this second stint with Phoenix. He averaged 15.2 points in 46 games (one start) in 2014-15 with the Suns before being traded to Boston during the season.

Thomas also has played for the Sacramento Kings, Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, Denver Nuggets, Washington Wizards, New Orleans Pelicans, Dallas Mavericks, and Charlotte Hornets.

He has a 17.6 scoring average in 552 games (362 starts) over 12 seasons. – Rappler.com
