Patrimonio bags women’s singles silver; Dy, Gonzales get mixed doubles bronze in SEAG tennis
Anna Patrimonio, Ruben Gonzales, and Denise Dy drop their respective matches in 2 sets

MANILA, Philippines- Anna Clarice Patrimonio added another silver in the bag for the Philippine tennis team at the 29th Southeast Asian Games women’s singles finals on Saturday, August 26, at the National Tennis Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The 23-year-old Patrimonio moved a win away from ending the Philippine tennis singles’ gold medal drought, but later on succumbed to Thailand’s Luksika Kumkhum who posted an overwhelming straight-set victory, 6-0, 6-1 for the gold.

Patrimonio, the daughter of PBA legend Alvin Patrimonio, earlier defeated fourth seed Ka Andrea Daray of Cambodia, 6-0, 6-3 to advance to her first finals stint in the biennial games.

Meanwhile, Ruben Gonzales and Denise Dy also bowed out in the semis and settled for bronze in the mixed doubles event, failing to defend the title that Dy and Treat Huey won in 2015.

Gonzales and Dy fell in straight sets to their Thai competitors Sanchai Ratiwatana and Nicha Lertpitaksinchai, 2-6, 6-7, on Friday.

The two had previously locked in medals in separate events, with Gonzales winning silver with Francis Casey Alcantara in the men’s doubles, and Dy capturing bronze with teammate Katharina Lehnert in the women’s doubles event. – Rappler.com
