MANILA, Philippines – Confirming announcements made a day earlier, Sony announced Wednesday, September 16, it was lowering the price of the 500GB PlayStation 4 across parts of Asia.
Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia (SCEJA) said that the new suggested retail price (SRP) for the 500GB PS4 would be P18,900 ($405), beginning October 1. This is down from the P24,999 ($536) SRP it had previously.
SCEJA, a division of Sony Computer Entertainment responsible for business operations in Japan and Asia, made the announcement at the SCEJA Press Conference 2015 Asia Session.
Sony will also introduce in the Philippines a version of the PlayStation 4 with 1TB of built-in storage near the end of October. This version will arrive with a P20,900 ($448) price tag.
Basketball fans looking for a special PS4 to call their own may also want to wait until October 1, when Sony will be releasing a special NBA 2K16 bundle for Taiwan and the Philippines. (READ: Bloodborne expansion The Old Hunters set for November)
Meanwhile, Star Wars fans can look forward to November 17, as the company said it would release a Limited Edition Star Wars Battlefront PS4 bundle for its Asian consumers.
Details on both the NBA 2K16 and Star Wars PS4 bundles will be announced in the future.
New Vita and DualShock 4 colors
Sony is also capitalizing on the price drop to make people want to try new accessories for their PS4 or complement their PS4 purchase with a new PS Vita.
Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia will be getting Gold, Silver, Crystal, and Steel Black DualShock 4 controller units by the end of October.
Meanwhile, the PS Vita will be getting 3 new colors – Aqua Blue, Glacier White, and Neon Orange – priced the same as existing PCH-2000 PS Vita models.
Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia will receive these Vita model colors on or after September 26. – Rappler.com
