MANILA, Philippines – Facebook announced a redesigned version of its News Feed – the section of the social networking site where you get updates about posts from people and pages you follow. The announcement was made via a news conference held at Facebook HQ in Menlo Park, California on Thursday, March 7 (March 8 in Manila).
The focus of the redesign is to “reduce clutter” so users can focus more on stories and content they care about. The new look was completely built from scratch and is not a revision of the old one. Content is front and center – photos, news articles and even maps get top billing.
What once were “tiny little photos are now blown up.”
Facebook also announced several kinds of news feeds.
- All Friends: a feed that shows you everything your friends are sharing.
- Photos: a feed with nothing but photos from your friends and pages you like
- Music: a feed with posts about the music you listen to, new album releases, etc.
- Following: a feed with the latest news from the Pages you like and the people you follow.
The following feed is a great way for you to get news updates from Rappler. Make sure to like Rappler’s Facebook page.
The new design will be consitent on both desktop (and browser) and on mobile applications. The left hand menu that was once just available for mobile users is now available on the web.
Like most of its product releases Facebook will be rolling out the new design to users over the course of the next few weeks. If you’d like to get it early visit facebook.com/newsfeed and add yourself to the waiting list.
For mobile app users, updates will come for iOS users “in the coming weeks,” Android users will get it soon after.
