Huawei unveils the Ascend G6 selfie smartphone at its Unlock Possibilities event at the 2014 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona

MANILA, Philippines — Huawei unveiled a new 4G LTE smartphone, the Ascend G6 at its Unlock Possibilities Event at the 2014 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Sunday, February 23.

The Ascend G6 is a 4.5-inch smartphone that borrows the same design as last year’s ultra-slim Ascend P6 smartphone. Both devices have an aluminum frame, a curved bottom, and an oddly placed microphone jack on the bottom left hand side of the device. While the G6 is slightly smaller than the P6, it is thicker.

The device sports a qHD LCD display with a 960 x 540 resolution (245PPI), is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, comes with 8 and 5 megapixel cameras and is powered by a 2,000mAh battery.

Huawei hopes the smartphone will appeal to selfie addicts and has included better cameras and a voice-activated selfie mode.

On the back of the G6 is an 8 megapixel back side illuminated camera that shoots at an aperture of f/2.0. The camera uses Sony’s IMX134 image sensor and promises better images in low light.

The device runs on Android 4.3 Jellybean and includes Huawei’s customized Emotion user interface.

It will be available in black with light gunmetal grey or rose gold highlights, or in white with pink or champagne gold. The Ascend G6 also comes in a 7.5mm 3G version available in black, white, pink, gold or blue.

The 4G LTE version will be available globally in April 2014. – Rappler.com
