‘Marcos not a hero’: Taft Avenue schools hold noise barrage, light candles

MANILA, Philippines – Hundreds of students and administrators from a cluster of schools along Taft Avenue in Manila gathered outside the De La Salle University (DLSU) on Thursday night, November 24, to make a stand against the later dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

Spearheaded by the student organizations, the rally was meant to express outrage over the decision of President Rodrigo Duterte to let Marcos be buried in the Heroes’ Cemetery, and hasty and surreptitious way the burial was carried out.

The Taft Network is composed of students and staff from the De La Salle University, DLSU-Law, College of Saint Benilde, St Scholastica’s College, and the Arellano University School of Law. 

They conducted a noise barrage and lit candles during the gathering – for some of them, a kick-off to the grand anti-Marcos rally to be held in Luneta on Friday. (READ: November 25 Luneta grand rally: What you should know)

Zed Laqui, DLSU University Student Government president, said the Taft Network will sustain its initiatives beyond holding protest actions.
