Aura PH sweeps Impunity KH to keep its title-retention bid alive, while Onic PH falls prey to Geek Fam Indonesia

Aura PH emerged as the lone Filipino team in the Mytel International Championship after sweeping Impunity KH, while its local rival Onic PH got the boot from Geek Fam Indonesia on Wednesday, July 29.

Reigning Mytel International champion Aura PH wasted no time in claiming its semifinals seat, eliminating Impunity KH in a span of 10 minutes in the two games they tangled.

Aura PH’s Jaypee “Jaypee” Dela Cruz (Yi Sun-Shin) proved too strong to handle for the Cambodian squad, averaging 9.5-1-5 kill-death-assist record in the best-of-three series.

The two-time Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Philippines (MPL PH) champion wreaked havoc all over the map behind Allen “Greed” Baloy (Kagura and Selena) as he nullified Impunity KH’s team fight-oriented lineup to execute Aura PH’s strategy.

Meanwhile, Geek Fam showed nonstop aggression in the early game pick off against Onic PH, gaining the upperhand in the series opener of their quarterfinals affair.

“To be honest, it’s a bit hard for me, especially being the team captain. But rather than showing a sad face, I try to cheer myself up and show my teammates that it is fine losing as long as we are still learning,” said Onic PH team captain Johnmar “OhMyV33nus” Villaluna.

“It’s a process, so I keep on telling them that our best is yet to come and we still have things up on our sleeves.”

Looking to find retribution in Game 2, Onic PH started strong only to witness Geek Fam gain a huge gold difference by going for the turret objectives.

Onic PH, a two-time MPL PH runner-up, ended the tournament at 8th place.

“I think we had a hard time checking the enemy team’s gameplay and we’re also currently struggling with our internet connection. The best thing we can do is to force ourselves to play and gather as much data as possible and use it as a medium to become stronger,” said Villaluna.

Aura PH will face Onic Indonesia in the semifinals on Thursday, July 30, for the chance to defend its title in the grand finals. – Aeron Gabriel Pantig/Rappler.com
