Smart, UFC announce mobile partnership
The UFC Fight Pass, which offers exclusive web content for fans, is now available in the Philippines

MANILA, Philippines – Good news for diehard UFC fans: you can now watch and enjoy more of your favorite fights anytime, anywhere.

At a press conference held last Wednesday, Feb 24 at the Marco Polo Hotel in Ortigas, Smart Communications, Inc. and UFC announced their exclusive partnership, with Smart becoming the UFC’s official mobile carrier in the Philippines.

The deal will give Smart Bro subscribers special access to fan events such as meet and greets with top UFC fighters. Throughout the year, they will also enjoy exclusive access to live viewing parties and chances to win premium co-branded prizes.

A WINNING COMBO. Smart will be the official mobile carrier of the UFC in the Philippines

Smart will also be the Philippine provider of the UFC Fight Pass, UFC’s digital platform. Similar to online streaming services like iflix, the UFC Fight Pass provides fans with exclusive web-only content, access to live streaming, and hundreds of hours of video from the world’s largest library of fight content. The platform is available on desktop and on mobile through Google Play or the App Store.

The UFC Fight Pass will provide access to footage from every UFC event as well as from past promotions like Strikeforce and Pride FC. Recently, the platform has also expanded to include other combat sports like GLORY kickboxing and the Eddie Bravo Invitational jiu-jitsu event.

Kenneth Berger, UFC executive VP and general manager for Asia, said: “With our massive fan base and huge media interest in our sport, combined with the runaway success of our inaugural sold out Manila event, we want to be able to provide as much opportunity as possible for fans to interact with UFC. This partnership is a huge step in that direction.”

Wonderboy in Manila

WONDERBOY. UFC welterweight Stephen Thompson answers questions

A special guest at the press conference was Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, who is currently the No. 2 ranked contender in the UFC’s welterweight division. In his most recent fight, he scored an upset victory over former champ Johny Hendricks via TKO in the 1st round.

Thompson is currently travelling across the continent for the UFC’s Asian media tour. Like a good pocket Wi-Fi connection, he relies on his speed to augment his success in the cage.

“Speed is tremendously important,” Thompson said. “Speed is power. If you don’t have speed, if you’re not fast enough to hit your opponent, you can’t do damage.”
