MANILA, Philippines – Here we go! Nintendo finally released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming The Super Mario Bros. Movie in a livestream on Friday, October 7.

The teaser gives viewers a sneak peek of Chris Pratt, Jack Black, and Keegan-Michael Key’s voice performances as Mario, Bowser, and Toad, respectively. Luigi, voiced by Charlie Day, also makes a brief appearance at the end of the trailer.

Ever since the announcement that Chris Pratt would be voicing protagonist Mario in the movie, fans of the franchise have been divided about the Jurassic World celebrity taking the role instead of longtime Mario voice actor Charles Martinet.

The Hollywood adaptation of the iconic video game franchise serves as a collaboration between Nintendo, Universal Pictures, and animation studio Illumination. Miyamoto will also produce the film alongside Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.

According to Miyamoto, Nintendo has been working closely with Illumination on the film – from brainstorming all the way to production. However, nothing has been shared to the public regarding the movie’s plot.

The film boasts a star-studded cast, including Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, and Seth Rogen, to name a few. Charles Martinet will also make a series of cameos in the film.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is slated for release in North America on April 7, 2023. No announcements have been made regarding its Philippine release. – with reports from Manolo Soliven/Rappler.com
