Elijah wins for his performance in the film 'Kalel, 15'

Elijah Canlas was named best actor at the Harlem International Film Festival in New York, USA on May 16 for his performance in Kalel, 15

The Film Development Council of the Philippines  (FDCP) shared the news on their Facebook page, and congratulated Elijah.

The Harlem International Film Festival honors “dynamic films by anyone about anything under the sun,” according to their website. Its board of advisors includes director Mira Nair, award-winning actors Susan Sarandon and Keith David, and playwright Eve Ensler.

In Kalel, 15, Elijah plays an HIV-positive teenage boy struggling with a dysfunctional family. The film was directed by Jun Robles Lana, and stars the late Eddie Garcia, Jaclyn Jose, and Gabby Padilla.

Elijah was also named best actor at the Asian Film Festival, the Gawad Urian, and the FAMAS awards in 2020 for his performance in the film.

Kalel, 15 is available to stream on Netflix. – Rappler.com
