Inside the Internship: Baking for a greater purpose with The Kind Cookie

While COVID-19 upended the economy as we knew it, many Filipinos – even students – turned to small-time businesses.

People set up their own businesses for different reasons – some want to make extra money, some want to keep themselves busy, and others just want to help raise funds for the people who need them.

In this Inside the Internship three-episode miniseries, Rappler interns take over the Hustle team’s Inside the Industry podcast and talk to student business owners about their shops, as well as how they balance running them alongside academics.

For the first episode, Rappler digital communications interns Angelo Justin Barraca and Marian Almendras talk to Jmie Icasas of The Kind Cookie, whose baked goodies “serve a greater purpose.” She talks about their sweet fundraisers and how they choose beneficiaries who will receive a fraction of their profit for a certain month.
