MANILA, Philippines (3rd UPDATE) – The magic of Harry Potter still lives on – this time, onstage, as Harry Potter and the Cursed Child premiered at the Palace Theatre in London’s West End last July 30, Saturday.
Not to mention the script for it – the eighth Potter story – dropped in bookstores all around the world on the occasion of Harry’s and the author JK Rowling’s birthday, July 31. (WATCH: ‘Harry Potter’ is back as ‘Cursed Child’ hits bookstores around the world)
Stars hopped on the Hogwarts Express as they returned to the beloved story, witnessing (or reading about) what happened to the wizarding world of Harry Potter 19 years after the fall of Voldemort.
Rupert Grint, the movies’ Ron Weasley, dropped by a Cursed Child performance and met the Ron actor, Paul Thornley.
Professor Slughorn himself, Jim Broadbent:
Two Ginny Weasleys – on-screen and onstage – met at the Palace Theatre: Bonnie Wright and Poppy Miller.
Helena Bonham-Carter, aka Bellatrix Lestrange, met cast members, including Anthony Boyle (Scorpius Malfoy).
Emma Watson met the actress playing her character, Hermione – Noma Dumezweni – during the preview shows – as seen in photos posted on July 8:
Hermione – that is, Emma – meets her nephew Albus Severus Potter (Sam Clemmett) and his best friend, Scorpius Malfoy (Anthony Boyle).
The crew of the Enterprise (that’s some cast members of Star Trek Beyond) dropped by, too:
The red carpet of the gala premiere show was a star-studded affair with personalities like Imogen Heap (the play’s music composer and arranger), Andrew Scott, Stephen Mangan, and London Mayor Sadiq Khan.
Actor and singer-songwriter Darren Criss, a longtime Potter fan himself who created the musical A Very Potter Musical, quipped that Cursed Child would be the first Harry Potter book he didn’t buy with his parents’ money.
Darren’s former Glee castmate, Chris Colfer, also had a case of Pottermania:
Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson, who is performing in Guys and Dolls at the Phoenix Theatre (also in London’s West End) helped promote Cursed Child during the preview shows.
