LUCENA CITY, Philippines – Five people died due to a landslide that buried houses in Sitio Angelo, Barangay Umiray, General Nakar, Quezon Province on Tuesday night, October 24.

According to a report from General Nakar Mayor Eliseo Ruzol, the landslide occurred at the Sierra Madre mountain range, near the boundaries of General Nakar in Quezon, Doña Aurora Trinidad in Bulacan, and Aurora province.

On Wednesday, October 25, a team from the Army’s 80th Infantry Battalion went to the landslide site and found at least five houses buried.

After joint efforts by local residents and soldiers, the bodies of five victims were found, with four of them being identified. 

The were identified as Ramel Binalao, Shirley De Los Angeles, Jonathan De Los Angeles, and Dionely Datario. 

The search and rescue team said there may be more victims.

A search and rescue operation for trapped individuals is ongoing as of this posting. It involves residents, village officials, the Municipal and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices, and Army soldiers.
