Bolick boosts NorthPort bid for No. 1: 'I just want to win'
MANILA, Philippines – All Robert Bolick wants to do is win, and he showed that by towing NorthPort past Meralco in their final game in the elimination round of the PBA Commissioner's Cup.
The Batang Pier completed another come-from-behind victory as Bolick highlighted his 18-point game with the game-winning layup en route to a 93-92 triumph over the Bolts on Friday, July 12.
Having his potential game-winning layup against Columbian ruled out as a goaltend, the rookie made sure there wouldn't be any calls this time as he rushed past Cliff Hodge and drained the shot with ease.
"These are the moments that every player – not just me – wants to make a game-winner. For me, I just want to win. I took the opportunity to take the last shot and it went in," said Bolick in a mix of Filipino and English.
Not only did the victory give NorthPort momentum heading into the quarterfinals, it also put the Batang Pier in a good position to end up as the No. 1 team.
NorthPort (9-2) just needs top seed TNT (9-1) to finish with the same record to jump into the No. 1 spot since the Batang Pier defeated the KaTropa earlier in the conference.
"I just want to win because this is our stepping stone to the playoffs. It's better to enter the playoffs on a winning note instead of on a losing note. We'll start preparing for the quarters," Bolick said.
While NorthPort awaits which team it will face in the quarterfinals, Bolick seeks a deep playoff run for a Batang Pier squad that has only reached the semifinals once in franchise history.
"This is it, we will not let this go. We worked hard for the twice-to-beat bonus. Hopefully, we reach the semis. Just take it game by game," he said. – Rappler.com
