Boxing legend Shane Mosley rescues baby from car wreck
Shane Mosley was in the right place at the right time to pull a bleeding baby out of a car wreck on a California freeway

MANILA, Philippines – Boxing legend Shane Mosley proved he was a champion outside of the ring as well.

Mosley, a 3-division champion from Pomona, California, was at the right place and right time when a 4-car pileup took place on Monday, May 2 (Manila time) on Interstate 405 in California. Mosley, 44, and his girlfriend exited their vehicle to rescue a baby, whom he tells CBS News was bleeding and screaming in the backseat, from the wreck.

“You don’t know if the car is going to catch fire, what’s going to happen, then seeing there’s a baby in there,” said Mosley, who called 911 and says the father was so incapacitated by the accident that he was unable to unlock the door.

Mosley, whose career highlights include two victories over Oscar de la Hoya, wasn’t done when the ambulance came, following to the hospital while his girlfriend called the baby’s mother, who is pregnant with another child.

Mosley tells CBS that the father “was crying and saying, you guys are like an angel, and thank you for helping me. And being there for me and protecting my son.”

The story has a happy ending as the father and son are expected to be alright.

Philippine boxing fans may remember Mosley for his 2011 fight against Manny Pacquiao, which Pacquiao won by decision. Mosley visited the Philippines in 2014 and will face David Avanesyan for the interim WBA World welterweight title on May 28 in Glendale, Arizona. – Rappler.com
